Pacific Transfer's Shift to Digitise their Container Freight Station and LTL Delivery Operation
How one of Hawaii's largest logistics and transport companies found their match across the globe
How one of Hawaii's largest logistics and transport companies found their match across the globe.
About the Client
Pacific Transfer is one of Hawaii's largest container freight operations, providing container freight station (CFS), pier drayage, intermodal logistics, and warehousing services. The company runs approximately 1,600 FCL dispatches per week and operates the largest pier drayage dispatch operation in the Central Pacific, with a fleet of 50 tractor/haulers deployed across their operations.
The Challenge
When Pacific Transfer began searching for a replacement to their existing CFS software and LTL Transport Management System, they quickly ran into a fundamental problem: the market offered very few viable options purpose-built for container freight station operations.
Chris Redlew, President and COO, describes the search:
'When I initially started looking for technology solutions in the marketplace I struggled to find any viable solutions.'
Their existing processes relied heavily on paper-based dockets to track freight movement through the depot: an inefficient, time-consuming approach that introduced errors and limited visibility across the operation.
The Solution
Origin conducted a thorough discovery process before presenting a solution tailored to Pacific Transfer's specific workflows.
The solution centred on Origin's Container Freight Station software platform, paired with future integration of Origin's Transport Management System. Key capabilities delivered include:
- CFS mobile application for dock operations, eliminating paper dockets at the point of activity
- EDI integration with Pacific Transfer's clients for seamless data exchange
- Purpose-built digital end-to-end processes across consolidation, deconsolidation, and delivery
- Digital truck routing to optimise dispatch efficiency
- Electronic delivery receipts and signature capture replacing paper proof-of-delivery
Expected Outcomes
- Paperless operations across consolidation and deconsolidation workflows
- Instant data integration with third-party client systems via EDI
- Automatic document generation for client reporting and compliance
- Increased container and cargo visibility throughout the freight lifecycle
- Elimination of manual paperwork across the entire operation
Will Harding, Head of Product at Origin, highlights: 'Printing and filling out paper dockets just to track where freight is in a depot is inefficient and time-consuming.'
